SAGJORDET – is the latest developed bathing facilities. Situated at “Krana”, “Sagjordet” is only a short bike (car) ride from the centre of town. It has a small sandy beach for the toddlers, steps and diving boards for the more daring. On the premises there is permanent tables and big outdoor grill fore anyone to use and handicap toilets.
KASTELLET - situated at “Tangen”, it has a fantastic view and setting. Swimming has been made possible by steps and the swimming area is marked with buoys in the water. But there are no other facilities. RANDVIK - is the place for those who prefer a sheltered sandy beach close to town. From the main road into Risør, take of to “Viddefjell”. Pass the sports grounds and take off to the left, following the signposts. At “Randvik” you have the choice of two alternatives. From the parking lot you can take to the left to a beach that is well organised. Here is public toilets, cold water taps, playground with swings etc. If you prefer a bit more of peace and quiet take to the right. Here’s also a nice beach, but not the same facilities.
URHEIA – On top of the hillside on the left hand side of the towns bay when you face the sea, you’ll find the two former water reservoir now popular bathing facilities, idyllically situated in the towns popular recreation areas. A good alternative if time is short, sea is cold or you just want a change or to wash of the salt from earlier dips in the sea.
LILLE DANMARK – Risør is sheltered by a brim of islands. Placed on the inside of these you fine several nice places that are convenient for swimming. One of these are “Lille Danmark”. You find it on a little peninsula with some small natural fields and beaches. It’s an idyllic spot that the kids will love. It’s serviced with public boat routes through out the summer, as are some of the other most popular places on the islands, such as “Skallet”, “Breibukt” and “Stangholmen”.
FINNØYA – The centre for sailing in Risør is situated on “Finnøya”. Here you will find a small beach for the youngest. Outdoor grills are permanent and the island has public conveniences. The island has no public boat service, but the mooring possibilities are good.
RISØYA AND BOMMEN – In a lagoon between the to islands “Leikerøya” and “Risøya” is the most sheltered spot for anchoring of small sailing vassals and small yachts. Risør motorboat association has its own centre here with good moorings and other facilities.
All over the islands and the shores around Risør you will fine public conveniences and litterbins that is serviced by the municipality. All through the summer season the island and shores are patrolled by caretakers that make sure it’s kept clean and tidy.
WALK AND HIKING SUGGESTIONS
VAKTHUSHEIA – to the east of the town centre you will find the volumes island called “Barmen” ( The Bosom). On top of this island you will find a popular hiking area called “Vakthusheia”. You get there by taking of to the left by the Statoil petrol station going out of the centre of town. You take the first road to the right, follow that till you cross a bridge. On your right hand side you will find a signpost showing the path to “Vakthusheia”.
URHEIA – As mentioned earlier “Urheia” is a popular recreation area. It has fantastic views over the town and the sea, on the tops in 380 degrees. Here you will also find several reminisces from the occupation of Norway during the last world ware, that are preserved in memory the hardship of the ware. There are ditches and bunkers that the kids would love to explore. Just remember flashlights! Though a bit hilly the area is made convenient for wheelchairs and prams.
THE TOWN WALK – is something you must not miss. The town cryer John Thomas Axelsen will take you around amongst the small white houses of the town centre and tell you all about what happened in the old days and what is happening today. ON YOUR BIKE
A lot of tourists on pushbikes visit Risør every year. But Risør is also convenient as the starting point for round trips. We recommend to take RV416 to the old E-18 to ”Søndeled”. Take off on RV 351 to “Øysang”/”Jegertunet”. Follow this road till you get to the ferry M/S Øysang, crossing over the fiord back to Risør. The trip is approachably 32 km on a varied road through beautiful landscapes.
DEEP SEA FISHING
A lot of tourist takes the opportunity of experiencing deep sea fishing when visiting Risør in the summer. The boat “Østerfjord” is available for charter for groups up to 10 persons that whish to try their luck with a fishing rod. Information is available on web-site: http://www.havfiskerisor.no  |
